GUY EVERETT BARCLAY
(1894-1975)
Guy Everett Barclay was the 4th child of Bess & Minnie Barclay.
He was born in 1894 in Ava, Douglas County, Missouri, and was only about 12 or 13 when Bess moved the
family to Carney, Oklahoma in 1907. A year later, they settled in Tryon, OK.
The "Lincoln Book" (a compilation of family biographies in Lincoln County, Oklahoma) states that after
only five years of schooling, Guy became a blacksmith and a barber in Tryon, and remained there for many years.
In 1915 Guy married Elsie Waters, with whom he had two children:
Nellie Eileen Barclay (Davis) (1917-living)
Sylvester Max Barclay (1918-1962)

Sadly, Elsie died in 1922.
Guy's parents (Bess & Minnie Barclay)
took Eileen and Max to raise temporarily.

Guy was barbering in 1925 when he met and married Clemmie Little of Glencoe, Oklahoma. He was reunited with Max & Eileen, his
first two children, and five more were born to the new couple over the next ten years:
Doris Lee Barclay (Moats) (1926-living)
Emma Jean Barclay (Montgomery) (1928-living)
Daret Gale Barclay (1930-living)
Peggy Lou Barclay (Montgomery) (1934-2000)
Wayne Edward Barclay (1936-living)
During WWII, Guy commuted to Oklahoma City where he worked for McDonnell-Douglas. After the war, several
of their children moved from Oklahoma to California, so in 1951, Guy and Clemmie moved to Visalia, Callifornia
to be closer to their children and grandchildren.
By 1965, Guy's health began to fail, and Clemmie cared for him at their home until he passed away in
1975. He is buried in the Visalia Cemetery.
