John Meek C13, chart 41, (ca 1754=1803) b. MD or VA. Moved with brothers Joshua and Jacob to western Pennsylvania where they each bought 300-400 acres of land. Served in Rev War, in PA, VA, and MD militias. Disabled at Guilford Courthouse battle, losing an eye, later received a pension, English money 88.16.6, abt $40 per year. After the war, returned to PA. In 1787, he and wife Margaret sold their land and in 1788 moved to what is now Henry Co., KY. Lived on farm of 400 acres, which he bought in 1780. A trading post, Meeks Station (now Newcastle) started nearby. Buried on home farm, probably first grave in what is now a large well-kept cemetery. Grave located by your writer in 1947 and in 1954, decorated by DAR with a wreath of flowers by your writer, later a government Revolutionary War soldiers marker was placed on the grave.
