"Rev. George Washington Meek, b. 10-19-1819, Marion, Ind., d. 10-20-1883, Bethany, Mo., buried at Fairview Cem. George was the "Theodore Meek" in Ed Howe's book "The Story of A Country Town." This book is about Bethany and Fairview Church and community, George and Henry Howe, (Ed Howe's father) and others organized the Fairview Church, George gave the ground for the cememtery and Henry gave the ground for the church. George came to this community from Wabash Co., Ind., in 1855, obtaining 160 acres from the gov't. George was a United Brethren minister and was [a] deeply dedicated Christian, each day was started and closed with family worship, each member having a part. Two of his sons were ordained ministers also several grandsons and great-greandsons were ministers, even down to this present day we find several ministers and strong church workers among his descendants. Praise the Lord! George first m. was to Ann L. Keyes, 3-30-1843, one child, William L. Keyes Meek. George second m. was to mary ellen Shockey 1-4-1846, at Wabash Co., Ind. (Mary's dates, b. 3-12-1822, d. 4-29-1906; buried at Fairview). Ch. by second m.: Martha Edith Cave*, May Griffet, Sarah Ann, Malinda Ellen Cole*, Henry Harrison, Abram Shockey, Rev. Paschal Finley, Ruey Mahala Parnell*, Alfred Noah, Emma Eldora Joseph*. " *These are the married names of the Meek's girls.
