Joshua Meek C9, chart 25, (1731=4/27/1818) b. NC or VA, lived in VA until abt 1769, moved with brothers John and Jacob to Allegheny Co., PA. Bought 400 acres of land, later re-surveyed 4/11/1785, VA Certificate, as this land was reclaimed by VA. First wife's name unknown, m. 2nd in 1789, Margaret Mitchell, she being 37 years younger than he. Bore him ten children, the last when he was 80 years old. She died in 1854. He served in the Rev War as a Sgt. in Fairfax County, VA. Was buried on old farm visited by your writer in 1947. Other graves are wife, 3 daughters and others. The family gave liberally to their church, and a special bequest of $500 was made to the church "for the care of our Sharon church property and the family graveyard on the farm." Your writer found the family graveyard, unkept for many years, but when their attention was called to this, the church was not aware of their responsibility, and later had it cleaned up and we have a picture showing the work well done.
